We're big fans of the classic 1980s TV show Knight Rider, and ever since we first saw the amazing Fanhome 1:8 scale model of KITT, we wanted to build a drop-in upgrade for the LED scanner.

The Most Cost-Effective Way to Upgrade Your 1:8 Scale KITT Scanner

The Fanhome 1:8 scale KITT model is already amazing, but we thought the stock scanner could use a little upgrade!  Our drop-in replacement scanner connects directly to the stock connecting plugs and circuit board, and you can even turn the scanner on and off using the watch!  Just remove and disconnect the stock scanner, mount and fasten our upgrade board, connect to power, and your KITT has been upgraded.

This kit has been updated for 2024, with a longer power connection cable to make installation easier, and also with a new pushbutton switch that’s larger and easier to mount.

Our scanner features:
  1. Realistic power-on sequence that simulates the off-to-on transition of KITT's original scanner bulbs.
  2. True-to-life scanning action with gradated dimming/brightening of lights, to simulate the eight halogen lamps used in the "real" KITT from the TV show.
  3. Random transition between fast and slow scanning modes.
  4. KITT and KARR modes, selected using the small pushbutton switch included with this upgrade kit.  You can mount the pushbutton discretely on KITT's underbody and then toggle between KITT (red) and KARR (amber/yellow) modes.  With both modes, you get the same halogen dim/bright motion effects, and your setting is saved even when power is turned off.  NOTE: to get the full KARR effect, you will need to replace the stock red plastic shield on the scanner with a different color shield that allows the KARR light color to shine through-- our kit does not include this.  If you keep the stock red plastic shield in place, KARR mode will still appear reddish even though the underlying LED lights are amber/yellow.

This is a true drop-in replacement, and works just like the stock scanner in the Fanhome kit.  You can even control it using the watch!  Check out the demo videos below.
