Bring your LEGO Train Layout to Life with Automatic Signals
We love LEGO® trains, so we also love LEGO® train signals. Almost every official LEGO® train set includes a basic signal, but we’ve always wished that signal could be lit up and change automatically when a train passes by. To make that wish into a reality, we developed our own train signal controller and made this all-inclusive QuicKit. Setup is quick and easy using the provided online instructions. Just add three AAA-size batteries and enjoy the fun of an automatic LEGO® train signal on your layout. This QuicKit includes all the necessary parts to build an automatic, basic 2-aspect (red/green) train signal with controller.
You can set the delay time for resetting the signal after a train passes using the button on the controller—this lets the signal support small track loops as well as large layouts (or short trains and long trains).
When making an automatic train signal, the most important part is the train detection sensor-- you don’t want your train signal getting activated by anything other than a train passing by. Over the course of several years, we tested sensor after sensor to find one that worked in all levels and types of light. We finally found a great sensor: one that accurately detects trains but which is impervious to stray light sources. The sensor has built-in intelligence to filter out the noise so your signals work every time. We even tested it outside in bright sunlight!
The sensor mounts directly to the underside of LEGO® track, and it is slim enough so trains can pass over it without getting caught.

Full online instructions are included for building the signal controller housing and a basic train signal in either a 2- or 3-aspect configuration (a 3-aspect configuration will require one additional Pico LED light, not included with this kit). The instructions also detail how to set options in the controller, and how to expand the basic setup if desired to include additional lights (if you want to add lights to your own custom train signal design, we also sell the controller and sensor in a separate pack).
By adding one Pico LED Light (sold separately), you can also build a 3-aspect train signal.
This is a pack of one Brickstuff automatic train signal controller with infrared sensor, 3AAA battery pack (batteries not included), two warm white Pico LED lights, and genuine LEGO® parts to build a basic train signal and a housing for the controller. The connecting cable for the sensor is approximately 12 inches (30cm) in length.
